• My page background is different than the blog backgound, which is a dark color. When it first loads, the entire page is dark and barely legible. Eventually, the proper page background loads and it is easy to read.
My image is in gif format, so it shouldn’t be too large.

My site is Cruise Bug Vacations Is there something that I can do to improve the visibility?
Personally, I immediately leave sites with a dark background and light text, so don’t want this to look like a site with a dark background and light text.

I am at a loss about how to improve this so it loads up immediately rather than loading in stages.

    Thanks for your suggestions.

  • GIF doesn’t mean small filesize. It’s good for small, but not large, images. Since your background is quite large, you should use JPEG instead.

I saved your background as JPEG at 70% quality and the size is 111 KB compared to GIF 356 KB. Can’t tell the difference. http://img593.imageshack.us/img593/7499/backblur1200.jpg

You can try even lower quality and it may still look the same.

    Thanks, Joseph.

I learn something new everyday. I always thought that GIF was the smallest and best format for the web.
I changed this to a jpeg and lowered the quality and it does load somewhat faster, but there is still a bit of a lag, but it’s a huge improvement.

    Thanks again for your suggestions.
