This is the natural behavior of short URLs. The purpose is to provide users with a shorter (and less typing) URL which would redirect the user/viewer to the actual article/long URL when it’s visited.
They’re aliases for redirection to long URLs and not meant to replace the posts’ URL.

Well…OK…I understand the purpose is to shorten the URL, but how does the visitor get the shortened URL, if it does not show on the browser?
A Short-link link, shows up when posting, which I can click on and get the short link as Admin, but how does a visitor see the short URL? Just by clicking on the short-link myself, doesn’t seem to change anything, so someone else can see it.
You’ll have to display your short URL somewhere in your site or template so that users will know about it…
You can display it in a post using either shortcodes or coding it directly into the template using the template tags provided.
Using Shortcodes:
you put [shortlink] anywhere in your post itself.

Using Template Tags:
This would require you to edit the theme template itself.
Using template tags allows you to automatically display the short URL without having to explicitly include the link or shortcode in every post.

In the new options page, I’ve added the ability to add a simple link to the shorturl/shortlink below your post content.
