• Is there a library of pre-fab style sheets that modify the appearance of the template? I’m thinking of a WordPress equivalent of Blogskins.com.

I don’t yet know enough to know. I’m only now at the point where I’ve decided I want to use WordPress and not Blogger or B2 or Xanga, etc. I am trying to get myself up to speed as soon as I can.

    anon…
The basic tasks for changing the look of your site are done structurally through the INDEX.PHP file and presentationally through the WP-LAYOUT.CSS file. For sure take a look at the link Sushubh provided, and compare and contrast those templates and you will get an idea of what kinds of things need to be done as well as the sort of things that can be done.
    Have fun!
    Craig.

I did take a look at the link and it was just what I wanted. Presumably I upload the .css file and the images, replacing existing, and that will get me where I want to be. Oh, and if I understand correctly, to use one of the templates at that site I don’t need to touch the INDEX.PHP file.
I’m no longer so anonymous because it looks like I’ll be here for a bit bugging everyone for help as I go through the learning curve.
    Thanks for far, and TIA.

All you need to do is modify your index.php to make sure that it’s @import-ing the right style sheet

or just rename the css file to wp-layout.css
