Hi. I am creating a website http://www.salvavidasamazonia.org and would like everything on this site to be in portuguese (comment pages, achives – months, ect). However, I do not want to install the portugese version of wordpress. I simply want my website to be in portuguese (preferably Brazilian). All the forums I have found are older and the links don’t work anymore. The theme I am using is Weaver 2010. Do I need to change my theme, or is there another way? Thanks!

  • Hi. If you don’t need a permanant language change, you may want to take a look at http://www.wibiya.com/
    The plugin is here.
    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wibiya/
I have quite a few Spanish members and visitors so have found it useful.
Works well with WP 3.0.1 too.
They have about 45 languages so far.
    Hope its suitable.
    Mike.
(Once you’ve added the wibya bar to site you can add the itranslation to it and select languages you need. translations are quite good too )

It looks like a good plugin. I will definitely consider as a last resort. However, I really would like to make the change permanent if possible. Any other way?

Just to clarify. All the content (the stuff I write) is already in portuguese. I just need to change the months and stuff (things I didn’t write).

Hi again this is the codex page wher you might find more info.
    http://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_in_Your_Language#Brazilian_Portuguese_.28pt_BR.29

Or you can find the portuguese ( brazilian )
    version of wordpress 3.0.1 here.
    http://br.wordpress.org/
As you need to show (comment pages, achives – months, ect).
you may need to use the version in your language, I’m not experienced in this, hence my temporary decision for my own site.
I hope you get there, there is plenty of good advice on this forum.
    All the best. Mike.

Ok. Here’s my issue. I don’t mind using the portuguese version of wordpress, but I am managing two websites. One in english and one in portuguese. They are hosted at dreamhost, and I don’t want to change to a different host because I get free hosting for being a non-profit organization. So I don’t know if I can download two versions of wordpress onto dreamhost? I don’t suppose so, but I guess I can ask.

    Lina,

Did you install WordPress using Dreamhost one-click install?
    They have “easy” and “advanced” mode for the installation tool;

    1. if you used the “advanced” mode, you can follow the instruction I described here to switch to the Portuguese package (use pt_BR for Brazilian or pt_PT for Portuguese instead of fr_FR)

    2. If you used the “easy” mode, you will have to install the Portuguese package from scratch or use the “advanced” one-click install then switch.

also, you can install 2 or more instances of wordpress – one english and one portuguese

Thank-you, thank-you, everyone for all your help. I got it to work. Yipee! I used Naoko’s instructions to turn my portuguese website into portuguese, and then found that I could download wordpress in English for my other website (dream host gives the options of which site you are downloading to/for). Thanks again to all.
