I’ve had the same issue on various sites. Is there a fix or documented limit?
BigDump Been around ages and still works best. If you’re on cPanel, use built in backup and restore. It always works on any size of DB and very reliable

Somebody should upgrade WP-DB-Backup to make it fits this need.

As I understand it, the problem is server time-outs for large DB files. That’s why many of these backup plugins allow you to choose which tables to backup, I guess to limit some of the big ones, like comments etc. Cpanel gets around DB size, as it’s an internal process. Big-dump spilts and re-combines to keep the job manageable and withing parameters.
BigDump is not a wordpress plugin, as you can see, but pretty easy to setup and manage as a stand alone script.
I have pesonally used cPanel backup/restore on DBs over 50 Mb. with no problem… except long upload times, of course 🙂 You’ll never get a time out, just make sure to leave the restore page open and active, untill it’s finished.

this is no WPplugin but it is absolut easy to use,
you can have multipart backups gzip zip ie
and cronjobs to do the job for you 😉
there is no database which is too big for mysqldumper
