Importing Authors via RSS

I’m using the RSS Import feature to move my old Cutenews system to WordPress. I’ve got everything importing perfectly and it even creates the categories for me. However, it doesn’t create the Authors. They’re designated in the xml in <author> tags but WordPress doesn’t seem to take notice of it. I’ve tried adding the authors manually and then importing the posts again but they’re still all listing my account as the sole author.

Any ideas?
