100% Sidebar Background Color

I’d created some ports of MovableType styles and had mentioned them on this support forum but I’m not exactly happy with them….

Since the content div is larger, and footer is set to clear:both, The sidebar always ends before the content div ends(is shorter) and sadly, the right section loses consistency because the sidebar has a background, which the space beneath the sidebar doesn’t

I’d like to make sure that the entire right column has a gray background (something like the wordpress support forum)

Can someone tell me how to work this out? I don’t want to use the min-height feature because it still wont give a 100% sidebar (and wont be IE compatible). Also setting sidebar hight to 100% does nothing at all.
