• HI All

I’ve searched around and think I have read most help files on this topic, however I cant get my head around this, so i’m looking to find the easier way to do this.

At the moment, we have a pretty good ranking in google. Our pages are indexed on the first page of the search engine and although I know I can get google to ignore old pages, I dont want to lose out.

So is there any way I can get my page url’s the same as my current website.

At the moment, I have http://www.kustominteriors.co.uk, I would like my contact page to be http://www.kustominteriors.co.uk/contactus as this will keep the same as it is now. Currently via my wordpress, its http://www.kustominteriors.co.uk/wordpress/contactus which until google get round to it, it wont show, so I was hoping just to keep the url’s the same

    Any hep is appreciated

  • You could let WordPress take over the root domain. See Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory.

thanks, i have read that but wasnt sure if it just meant the home page would be on the root, or if all my other pages were also under the root and not displayed under the wordpress folder.

Could I move all the folders into the root and it work out of the box?

    Sure, just follow this guide:

Sorry another question: I’ve noticed on my existing website, all webpages are

    http://www.kustominteriors.co.uk/aboutus.html

    With wordpress it would be

    http://www.kustominteriors.co.uk/aboutus/

So will this make a difference anyway (eg without the html – I would imagine the /aboutus.html is what has been registered with google, so either way I wont get picked up

No, that shouldn’t make a difference.

Thanks for all the help, I actually had huge issues, so ended up doing things the long way round, reinstalling wordpress on the root folder, under my .com address and redoing the website

However I would like to know two things:

    1) why did things go wrong
    2) wordpress is now located in the root folder, not under a wordpress folder though. My .com address points to the root. my co.uk points to a folder called /rapidw as they are the same hosting package.

Why did things go wrong. I changed on the dashboard, the root folder to http://www.kustominteriors.co.uk and changed the blog address to the same. I moved all of the contents of the wordpress folder to the root. I checked the .htaccess file and checked the wp-config which were fine. however when I tried to access http://www.ksutominteriors.co.uk I can a 500 internal server error. I had configured the phpadmin elements to look at the root folder, but nothing i did seems to work. Then I wasnt even able to move them back as by this point I wasnt able to login to wordpress.
Ended up reinstalling a fresh wordpress copy and re-doing the whole site

    2) so how do I now get the website to show on both domains, my .com is showing. However I want the co.uk domain to point to the wordpress

can I remove the direction to the /rapidw (which is where I upload my existing rapidweaver designed site to) which the home appears under http://www.kustominteriors.co.uk, to point to / – will this work having the wordpress site point to both?

Appreciate any help, as I seem to get my knickes twisted and then cant access anything, other than to do a compelte install and rebuild
