• Hostgator provides the opportunity to set a site up before the URL goes live. We can work on the site at an address like: http://74.52.60.82/~username.

Can I install WordPress there, prior to going live with the URL? Do I then have to go back in and change the WordPress address and site address to the URL once the site is live?

    Yes 🙂 But there’s a catch.

There’s the catch. So long as, even AFTER the URL goes live, you can access it at the other address, you’re fine. All you’d do is log in at that address, change the URLs, hit save, and don’t panic when it looks like you broke your site. Just go back to it at the new URL and you should be right as rain.

    That’s what I thought. Thanks.

Actually, it didn’t work. Probably because I used Fantastico, which used the projected URL rather than the IP address for the install. So, when I try to log in, it tries to go the to the projected URL.

    Live and learn.
