Support » Fixing WordPress » How to change author permissions?

  • Hi, I’m looking to make guest blogging easier on my WordPress blog. Basically, I want to allow new authors to register, then manually upgrade their status to “author.”

Once their upgraded to the author role, I only want them to be able to save drafts. I’ve seen this on another blog that I recently wrote a guest post for. I don’t want them to be able to do anything else that the author role typically allows such as edit, delete, or even publish their own posts.

Is their a plugin that will allow me to set author roles or is there another way that I can do this?

    thanks

  • Hi,

I realize you posted your question 11 months ago, but I thought I would chime in since you had a good question and it could help others looking for this answer.

I believe the answer to your questions is to set the status of your guest blogger as a “Contributor,” not an “Author.”

I found this great resource from the WordPress Codex that helped me determine what permission level I wanted to provide my guest bloggers.

    I hope this helps.
