I developed my own website using guidelines for a wordpress site and it all works for me. There a few things I have changed but originally I did install a flash player plugin with no problems.
I upgraded to version 3.0 wordpress.
I wanted to install a slideshow plugin but it has failed. Just to check, I tried installing another plugin but it also failed with the same message.

The following message occurred ( I removed the whole address from each message to simplify it) >>

    Downloading install package from http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/wordpress-gallery-slideshow.zip…

Warning: is_dir() [function.is-dir]: open_basedir restriction in effect. File(/tmp/php_upload) is not within the allowed path(s): wp-admin/includes/file.php on line 170

Warning: file_exists() [function.file-exists]: open_basedir restriction in effect. File(/tmp//wordpress-gallery-slideshow.tmp) is not within the allowed path(s):
    wp-includes/functions.php on line 2237

Warning: touch() [function.touch]: open_basedir restriction in effect. File(/tmp/wordpress-gallery-slideshow.tmp) is not within the allowed path(s):
    includes/file.php on line 199

Download failed. Could not create Temporary file.

Can someone clear this up for me?
    Thanks WD

  • I receive the same ‘Download failed. Could not create Temporary file’ message for everything I try to do with WordPress (I guess host 4 profit is just not compatable. To by-pass the problem I install everything manually using ‘FileZilla’ it is very simple to use (I have almost zero technical knowledge).
Alternatively you could just not bother with the plug-in and simply embed a photo video onto your web site. I use a terrific free program which you can find at: ‘Article Converter For Photo’s’ To see it’s capability’s click the link at the bottom of that page

    thanks Earnalot
I tried downloading it then FTP to plugins folder and it works. But I don’t understand why the direct download didn’t work. Anyway , thanks for your help and I will check out that program.
    cheers WD
