Love the concept of Meteor Slides. Spent many hours preparing slides for the header. They turned out pretty nice…but I can’t get the slider to work properly.

Spent yet more hours trying to figure out why slides were only 630px instead of 940px. (My test photos had been 630 x 420.) All this while experimenting with 2010Weaver child theme. (I have Twenty Ten 1.0.3 installed now; no child theme.) I’ve made a mess of it, with deleting and reinstalling themes, photos, and this sweet plugin; deactivating all my plugins numerous times; emptied the cache of every browser I have installed, over and over; and even repaired and optimized the database.

(I’ve lost all my style modifications. Should have stuck with the faithful Theme Companion plugin.)

Finally deleted all slide images from everywhere. It seemed to work; the slider is revolving with 4 pics; everything beautifully balanced and looking good. Then I realized the navigation tabs don’t work. And the URL is stuck on one of the slide pages (URL should be http://rvcarpesol.com/developrvcarpesol/)!

It’s nearly 2am. I give up. I’m shooting you an S.O.S.(Excellent video tutorial, BTW, but I went awry somewhere.)

It’s the weekend, but thank you for any help you can provide!

Looks like it’s only the Home page that is stuck with the slide.

Hi JoAnn, thanks for trying Meteor Slides.

It sounds like you got the slides to be the right size correct? The trick here is that the images will be resized to whatever dimensions you have set on the settings page. So you need to make sure the sizes you want are entered before adding slides.

I like your slides, changing just the background images makes for a smooth subtle header.

Sorry to hear you lost your theme customizations, Meteor Slides should work fine with a child theme, but some themes may require small tweaks to the CSS to get it to fit well.

I’m not sure I quite understand what the problem is. It sounds like the link on one of your slides is not working, is that correct?

It seems to be the same on the homepage as the other pages, but the homepage is currently missing, not sure if that has anything to do with it. It looks like the third slide actually doesn’t have a link added to, is that what problem is maybe?

Thanks for your response – I’ll try to explain better.

    The site’s Home/Front page is http://rvcarpesol.com/developrvcarpesol .

But it has somehow been replaced by the slide page http://rvcarpesol.com/developrvcarpesol/slide/whale-tail (Whale Tail image) where it looks like a post meant to be read.

Maybe a problem with the new custom post types? Have I entered the wrong PHP code? – This is what I have in header.php:

    <div id="site-description"><?php bloginfo( 'description' ); ?></div>
    	                                <div style="clear:both;"></div>
    					<?php if(function_exists('meteor_slideshow')) { meteor_slideshow(); } ?>
    			</div><!-- #branding -->

Thanks for your support! (I love your slider, and hope to be able to keep it in the header.)

P.S. When I first tested Meteor Slides, I used the short code to put it on the Home page. The images size was 630px by 420px. I did set the image size correctly when I switched over to Header mode, and set the unwanted 630px images to Draft. However, I forgot to take the short code out of the page. Maybe that did something. Anyway, that problem is resolved, as the header images now appear properly sized. I just mention it FYI, in case it provides a clue to you about anything.

I haven’t seen anyone have a problem quite like this one yet.

The slide posts should never appear on your site outside of the slideshow, and the custom post type shouldn’t conflict with anything, unless maybe you were using another plugin that dealt with custom post types.

Could you email me login info for your site so that I can check it out? My address is mail@jleuze.com

I have the same problem. My root domain now gets redirected to a slide page. I’ve even deleted the slide, so now it just shows a 404.

I need some help, in a bad way with this.

Hi danohart, the original poster never got back to me, so I don’t what the solution is. If you want to email me login info, I can check it out for you.

My problem got solved. It was an issue with the redirection plugin I had installed, and not meteor slides. Solution found here if it can be a help to anyone.

Thanks for sharing the solution to this problem!

I’m having the same problem as JoAnn. In my case I’m setting the link to
    http://www.mysite.com/mycategory/ucsd-supercomputer/
    but the link defaults to
    http://www.mysite.com/slides/ucsd-supercomputer/
I don’t have the redirection plugin installed.

Can I email you the link?

    Thanks,

Sure Leslie, I’d like to figure out what is causing that.

I just sent it, thank you again for taking a look.

Thanks for sending me the info Leslie, I sent you an email with a few suggestions for possible solutions.

I had the same issue when I tried to add a new slide AFTER adding a redirection plugin. It worked fine after I installed the plugin and right up to adding the new slide. Once I uninstalled the redirection plugin the slider worked fine.

    Thought this might be useful.

Thanks for the info seafever, I have a feeling that the redirect issues are because these plugins aren’t quite setup to handle custom post types yet. Which redirect plugin was it that was causing this problem for you?

Here’s the plugin I was using.

Again, everything was fine until I tried to add a new slide. Then things broke. πŸ™

Love the slider tho. Thanks for creating it and for your great support!
