• Hello, I was using SFC comment plugin on my website but whenever I attempted to post a comment after connecting to Facebook, I receive this error:

Error: please fill the required fields (name, email).

I tried disabling the name and email requirement in the WordPress Discussions tab which seems to be a work-around but the name shows up as ‘Anonymous’ instead.

I was wondering if anyone could help me? Is there something I should tweak? I’ve been up all night trying to figure out how to get this to work.

    Thank you!!!!

  • I get the same error. Hope Otto can help us out with this one? Can’t find any information about it online.

Sometimes people get this issue, but I have no idea why.

The way that the comments plugin works is that you log in with Facebook, and this sets a special cookie on your browser.

When you submit the comment, that cookie gets passed along. The Facebook PHP code parses that cookie and then the plugin uses that code to connect to Facebook and get your information like username, email, profile url, etc. It then forces these into those fields before the comment gets processed.

    So possible failure points:
    – You’re blocking cookies
    – Your server cannot talk to Facebook directly (firewall, obnoxious server security settings, etc)
    – The Legion of Doom is screwing with your head

Something like that. I dunno what the specific problem is for certain.

Seems like it’s not the cookie blocking (changed settings in my browsers, and tried out with a few other laptops), neither the server thingy (e-mailed my host, they checked).

So it must be the Legion of Doom ;).

Anyway, would be great if there could be a way to solve this. Can you look into the code to try and solve this? Of course in return for a couple of ‘beers’.

(I mean money, and I hope that’s not inappropriate to ask.)

    Thanks in advance!

I had the same problem, however, the problem only occurs in Google Chrome. IE works ok.

    I noticed few things.

    1. Google Chrome will not allow me to login via wp-admin using SFC.

    2. Google Chrome will allow me to login via comment, but not able to submit comment. (this only works if i clear all cookies. if i don’t clear the cookies, i can’t login via comment).

    * If previously I’ve logged into FB, or active in another window, same cookie issue will arise.

    3. IE8 will allow me to login via comment, and able to submit comment.

    4. IE8 don’t allow me to login via wp-admin (actually, it has set the cookie, as I able to comment without relogging-in)

PS: Just curious, if I register using SFC, do I need to login to wp-admin using username and password? or just connect to FB?

I have the same problem. However, I had this problem only on one site of 2 installations running on the same server.

I originally had this problem as well but everything seems to be working correctly now, I didn’t change anything either which is weird..

I have this problem in Firfox and Google Chrome (not tested in IE8).
I see my Facebook icon in the comment form.
    After entering comments I see:
    http://www.winstart.rs/wp-comments-post.php
    with the error message:
Error: please fill the required fields (name, email).

Before when I installed the plugin the problem was not there (about 12 month ago). After that i upgrade WordPress and SFC regulary.

Today when I test it it does not work on all my SFC installations:
3 site with 3 different servers.
