Support » Alpha/Beta/RC » Maintenance warning problem

  • So, I upgraded my site to wordpress 3.0 beta2, and giving it a try. I see that there is maintenance mode implemented to wp so it shows a warning site is in maintenance check back in a moment etc.

While updating plugins from my wp-admin, when it fails for some reason i have to go back and try it again. But, it shows maintenance mode warning when i refresh or go back to previous page. Each time i have to delete .maintenance from ftp so i can access to wp-admin.

So briefly, showing maintenance information for visitors may be a good idea (i think its not anyways), but it shouldn’t block access to wp-admin when some problem happens about updating something. Or .maintenance file should be deleted when wp gives error.

The . maintenance file is supposed to self-delete when you’re done upgrading. Are you using Beta2 or RC1? I’d upgrade to RC1 if you can, just to see if that’s already been fixed.

RC2 will be out soon, too 🙂

I am using RC2 already, .maintenance file gets deleted when the update is “successful”, but if update fails, then maintenance file doesnt get removed and prevents you to login wp-admin

I think that greatly depends on WHERE it’s failing and, if it’s failing in the middle of copying the files, that’s probably for the best.

While updating plugins from my wp-admin, when it fails for some reason i have to go back and try it again.

Next time it fails, make a note of the reason and post it here. Without the exact error, we’re just guessing 🙂
