Support » Installing WordPress » 404 when navigating to install.php

I know this topic has been brought up before and I’ve searched the forums and tried the various solutions offered.

I’ve installed wordpress many, many times in the past and have never encountered this problem.

I removed an old installation on the domain and placed a fresh install (including a new database) in the root directory. The old installation was in a subdirectory which no longer exists (was deleted when old installation was removed).

I now encounter a 404 when trying to navigate the browser to in an attempt to complete the new installation.

My suspicion is it has something to do with .htaccess and rewrite rules that were established with the old installation, but I’m not certain of how to fix.

Anyone have any clues on what my next step might be?
