404 Not Found: The requested URL /wordpress was not found on this server.

Hello. I am trying to install WordPress on a local server and keep getting this message. I have a macbook pro and have MAMP installed. I downloaded WP and followed the installation guide. I have double checked all ports (apache set to 8888, my SQL to 8889), and I have created a WP database in phpmyadmin simply called “wordpress”. My root folder is set to users/username/sites/wordpress.

Any help appreciated. Thank you. For reference, I have looked at the install guides on Codex and WP already and cannot figure this problem out.
