Support » Fixing WordPress » 404 Homepage Redirection Issue

  • Good day,

I have been handling this WordPress site for some time now and I’m trying to comprehend why every time I test for 404 errors, everything redirects to the homepage even when there is a 404.php in the theme files.

I recently installed ‘404 Redirected’ plugin in the WordPress site. I checked today and I found weird redirects.

    Page: /blog/2012/12/05/free-ebooks-for-you

I checked the plugin’s logs and ‘Action Taken’ data were:
    – Redirect to
    – Redirect to /blog/2012/12/05/free-ebooks-for-you/

These URLs both refer to the same ‘Page’ URL indicated above.

    It is really confusing.

I would like any 404 errors to go to my 404 page (just so I can track what’s going on).

Can anybody help me with this?

    Thank you in advance.

  • Usually the 404 redirect plugin, does exactly what you have explained. It takes user request for pages that does not exist and redirect them to the home page. At least that has been my experience with it.

    Hi Amado.

    Thanks for the reply.

Thing is, BEFORE I even went to install the 404 redirect plugin, my pages ALREADY redirected to the homepage.

The reason I installed 404 redirect plugin is for me to see what is happening behind the scenes.

So far, it got me more confused than ever. LOL.
