• If I go to the /events/ url for my site, the calendar displays correctly but my breadcrumb trail says 404 and my page title is ‘Page not found’ if ‘List’ view is displayed with no upcoming events. If ‘Month’ is the view (url is /events/month/) then the breadcrumb shows ‘Event’ and the Title http tag shows ‘Events’.

  • If no events are found it may well return a 404 status – some themes additionally expose this status by adding a prominent message in the title/breadcrumbs and some do not … if that’s the case you would need to tweak your theme to resolve this.

The 404 HTTP response creates an issue when the calendar is empty and also linked from the global navigation: every page will have a link to the calendar that looks broken to spiders, but navigable to humans.

This can be an issue if there’s content intended to be indexed in search engines on the page, regardless of whether there are events.

I’d like to change this functionality. Barry, do you have any indicator of how I can do this? I think an empty /events/ page should return return HTTP 200.

I’ve seen some other calendars where this creates a problem though: the problem is that an endless amount of pages may be generated.

    What’s the solution?

An empty month view shouldn’t result in a 404 with our current release – do you mean an empty month view for a specific category, or some other variation? We’ll happily explore this with you but it would be best if you create a new thread. Thanks!
