• I see a list already stared in the section marked 404 File/Folder White List under the 404 Detection section of the Dashboard. It includes the following:

      /favicon.ico
      /robots.txt
      /apple-touch-icon.png
      /apple-touch-icon-precomposed.png
      /wp-content/cache
      /browserconfig.xml
      /crossdomain.xml
      /labels.rdf
      /trafficbasedsspsitemap.xml

Did the plugin automatically include these? I only recognize the first two to be actual files.
What are the rest and are they needed?

  • Yes, the iTSec plugin included this default list.

I’m not going to explain all entries (thus allowing others to contribute to this topic) but the /apple-touch-icon.png and /apple-touch-icon-precomposed.png entries are normally used when Apple iOS iPhone or iPad users save your site as a favorite in the Safari browser.

Most web site owners\administrators will forget about adding these two files in the root of the website.

So basically whatever is added by default by the iTSec plugin in the 404 Folder White List is worth keeping unless you fix the 404’s produced otherwise …
