• As topic, it gives me 404 when trying to access anything like wp-config, wp-install etc etc. I’ve followed the WP install perfectly, even started fresh and did it again.

I have just redirected my domain from another host today and as it warns I must wait 24-48 hours, is this what is causing the 404? (I hope so)

The only thing that makes me feel that it isn’t to do with redirecting is that if I just go to http://www.mysite.com it redirects to http://www.mysite.com/cgi-sys/defaultwebpage.cgi. But then im not the expert.

    Any ideas appreciated. Cheers.

  • looks like you have a place holder in your root that why it is redirecting to a cgi script.

That place holder need to be deleted before you install wordpress.

To install you will be adding /wp-admin/install.php after your domain name.

okay, what are the absolutely necessary files that need to be in public_html before I install wordpress? I’ll delete everything else.

There may be a cgi-bin folder that ts where you put any cgi scripts you can delete all rest as there should be no other file or folder and upload all wordpress files and folders in public_html

    govpatel,

Again wrong. It depends on hosting configuration. There is no need to delete anything except default home page and may be default images. I saw a lot of problems because of deleting stuff.

In public_html is root folder should only have files and folder related your domain name all server configration files and folders will be in Home You can add sub folders if you want but there are no server files and folders.
