 * Hi guys,
    I am on my third day trying to install this.
 * Originally, my web hosts’ tutorial gave me specific instructions for downloading
   WordPress 2.7 and installing it via [http://cgi.yourdomain.com/wordpress/wp-admin/install.php](http://cgi.yourdomain.com/wordpress/wp-admin/install.php)–
   I had to sign in to my cgi account to upload everything, but when I ran the url
   to setup it worked and everything came out great.
    Tutorial Source: [http://www.activewebhosting.com/faq/scripts-wordpress.html](http://www.activewebhosting.com/faq/scripts-wordpress.html)
 * The problem is that I did not want my url to be cgi.marcusmillsproductions.com
   when I know there has to be a way to just have it on my ftp so that the address
   is [http://www.marcusmillsproductions.com](http://www.marcusmillsproductions.com).
 * So I deleted the files, logged into my ftp and tried doing it that way following
   the wordpress instructions, the 5 minute install and everything else I could
   read online.
 * I downloaded WordPress 3.0.4, unzipped, edited wp-config-sample.php and saved
   it to wp-config.php; I uploaded all the files inside the wordpress folder directly
   to my ftp, and typed in [http://marcusmillsproductions.com/wp-admin/install.php](http://marcusmillsproductions.com/wp-admin/install.php)
   and received a 404 error.
 * I deleted everything from my ftp, and tried uploading the entire WordPress folder.

   Same 404 error.
 * After reading everything from the forums, I even tried creating a ‘public_html’
   folder and uploading everything to that within my ftp – I still received a 404
   error.
 * I found a really cool theme that I would like to use, and I am in the process
   of graduating so I want to be able to get this done without having a fourth day–
   I am so frustrated. (Theme: [http://themeforest.net/item/onixus-corporate-business-wordpress-theme-3/147964](http://themeforest.net/item/onixus-corporate-business-wordpress-theme-3/147964)
 * I am even willing to pay – if anyone can please help me, I would greatly appreciate
   it.

 * Hi Marcus,
 * You shouldn’t need to create a public_html folder, it should just be there. It
   is likely the host uses a different name like “html_docs” or something like that.
 * Ask your host to confirm the document root for uploading the files as everything
   else you have done should work.
 * Also make sure the FTP account you are using is the root account, not a different
   user as the files my end up in a sub-directory.
 * Let us know how you go 🙂

 * Just noticed [http://www.marcusmillsproductions.com/](http://www.marcusmillsproductions.com/)
   comes back with “Directory Listing Denied”
 * So it appears there are no index pages in your document root.

 * Hi WP Hosting Australia, I appreciate your time and help.
 * I have been trying to contact my web host via phone and email, and it appears
   as if I am at a dead end: I am looking into other web hosts that could help me
   preinstall wordpress if I buy and transfer.
 * In terms of the index pages with the document root, what would you recommend?(
   Any chance it can be broken down, this WordPress experience is new to me)
 * I also tried changing the name to html_docs…nothing. :/

 * What does your directory structure look like when you log into FTP?

 * Aside from the html_docs folder, I also have a logs folder (directory)

 * Try placing a blank index.html file in the folder where html_docs and logs are.
 * This will help find out if that is the document root.

 * Can it be a blank file?

 * Yes, or type in “test”, it doesn’t matter as long as it’s named “index.html”

 * I placed a blank index.html (sorry I overlooked that you specified blank) in
   both directories…still nothing. :/

 * Update: I added the index.html file into the open ftp directory when I first
   get in, and it looks like when I went to marcusmillsproductions.com it changed
   to a blank screen.

 * It works!
 * Go here and you’ll see the error gone and a blank screen – [http://www.marcusmillsproductions.com/](http://www.marcusmillsproductions.com/)
 * Now upload your WP files where you put the file 🙂

 * Okay, so I am transferring the files from html_docs to the root and seeing what
   happens.

 * Did it. Now when I go on marcusmillsproductions.com, it’s still blank. When I
   go to [http://marcusmillsproductions.com/wp-admin/install.php](http://marcusmillsproductions.com/wp-admin/install.php),
   it still gives me a 404 error :/
