So I’m trying to copy a live website I’m working on to my local server so that I can debug it, but after going through this tutorial I’m getting a 404 error on http://localhost/wordpress/ saying, “The requested URL /wordpress/ was not found on this server.” Can anyone help me out please?

  • Hello gradyjenkinz,

Google most likely is serving is cached version of your site, and has not updated their links.

You can “Ask Google to re-crawl your URLs” as outlined in their help guide here:
    https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/6065812?hl=en

Once it has been recrawled it should serve the new links in the results.

    Cheers,
    John-Paul

    HI gradyjenkinz

did you download the files to /wordpress/ folder or directly the root on your local webserver? Do check if http://localhost takes you to the site, or any other directory name where your wordpress site is downloaded.

    Yogesh,
Thanks for replying. I actually was able to copy the site over using UpdraftPlus and restoring from a backup of the live site.

    Great! cheers!
