    URL: http://www.moonfleet-angling.com

All of a sudden the website above has lost all it’s stylesheet information and the admin login goes straight to a 404 error now.

    I have tried:

    1. Renaming the htaccess file and creating a new one with just the basic WP code in it
    2. Renaming the plugins folder in case it’s a plugin that’s caused it
    3. Adding an extra bit of code relating to cookies to the wp-config file
    4. Checking the wp-admin folder is all still there, which I think it is but there are so many files in there that I can’t be sure it’s all still as it should be, but I’ve not deleted anything accidentally

…but nothing works! I am at a loss as to what to try next. I can see the login screen, minus the stylesheet, if I go to /wp-login.php but then when I click the ‘login’ button it goes to the 404 error again.

    Please help! Thank you

Aha! Thank you Ializ, that worked! The client asked me yesterday if there was a way to take the site down for a few days, when I went to log in to enable maintenance mode I found the 404 error so I guess they tried to do it by changing the site URL thinking that would work, lol.

    Thanks for your help 🙂

Sorry to bother you again, but I am back on the admin section but a lot of the images etc still have http://www.google.com as the start of the URL and the stylesheet is obviously still not showing – is there anywhere else that they could have changed the URL to Google that I am missing?

    Thanks again for your help.

you might have to use a plugin called blue velvet , it will do the job of replacing google.com with moonfleet-angling.com for your website. double check both URL’s before proceeding.

Sorted! I did the URL change the quick n dirty way changing the wp-config file but I just needed to go back and remove the two lines of code and change the URL back in the settings once I was able to access admin again.

Thanks, it all works fine now 🙂

    Thanks again.

Changing URL via wp-config is a time saver.

Glad you got this fixed 🙂

I did a bad thing, I installed the You tube plug in and in error I put the embed url into the main url and now I get a 404 error and it can’t get into to administer and change it back to the original. I have a support group but they are taking so long to correct my problem and I am hoping you can help and guide me. I am not a coder and I am a newbie to web mastery.

I hope you can help me get into the backend and correct my error.

    Thank you
