 * I’m considering doing a re-install of WordPress on the server, but need to find
out if that would actually solve the problem I seem to be having first.
 * When I type in the web address to any other page than my “home” page, I get the
404 error… and it also doesn’t pull up my stylesheet (not a huge deal). I can’t
use the permalink, or the regular link. Now it seems even images I have on my
site are turning up as incorrect links – same fashion.
 * I’ve read that I need to edit my .htaccess file, but cannot seem to find where
that would be. Can you access that through the WordPress CMS?
 * It doesn’t seem to be theme related, as I tried installing one of the WordPress
standard themes and had the same issue.
 * Thanks in advance!

 * Also, this page is juuuuust gibberish, [https://codex.wordpress.org/htaccess](https://codex.wordpress.org/htaccess)
and talks about it, but not how to edit it.

 * Have a look at this before continuing; [Using Permalinks](http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Permalinks)
 * If little of that makes sense, contact your hosts support staff or consult their
FAQ to make sure that your server configuration supports mod_rewrite, and how
you might take advantage of that to enable pretty permalinks for your web space.

 * In the event that you ever actually need to edit .htaccess (or any other file
on your web space) manually, you can do that by using your FTP client or the
file manager in your hosts control panel. The htaccess file is a hidden file
by default, so you will need to turn on the “show hidden files” option in either
   of the tools I’ve mentioned.

 * I did a reinstall of WordPress on the server, tried the “pretty links” and that
didn’t work… so went with the “ugly” permalinks (I had the message “If your .
htaccess file were writable, we could do this automatically, but it isn’t…” on
the original install, when I did the reinstall it wasn’t there anymore).
 * Today I tried “pretty links” again, and it seems to work? Not sure how that ended
up happening, but hopefully the change is permanent.
