# 404 Error

 * I edited an old post to optimize it and the Asset Cleanup plugin is showing a
strange 404 error and asking me to submit a ticket about the issue.
 * The error is reproduced below:
 * Note: The checked URL returned an error when fetching the assets via AJAX call.
This could be because of a firewall that is blocking the AJAX call, a redirect
loop or an error in the script that is retrieving the output which could be due
to an incompatibility between the plugin and the WordPress setup you are using.
 * Here is the response from the call:
 * Status Code Error: 404 * for more information about client and server errors,
   check this link
Suggestion: Select “WP Remote Post” as a method of retrieving
the assets from the “Settings” page. If that doesn’t fix the issue, just use “
Manage in Front-end” option which should always work and submit a ticket about
   your problem.
 * Please help resolve the error at the earliest.
 * The page I need help with: _[[log in](https://login.wordpress.org/?redirect_to=https%3A%2F%2Fwordpress.org%2Fsupport%2Ftopic%2F404-error-355%2F%3Foutput_format%3Dmd&locale=en_US)

 * [@krohit](https://wordpress.org/support/users/krohit/) Thanks for starting this
ticket and hopefully this is an isolated case. In the “Output:” area (below “
Suggestion:”) do you see any message there? It would be helpful to know!
 * One way to check the actual call (and its response) is to use right click on
the page and click on “Inspect” that will open the browser’s console. Then, loo
for “XHR” and in the left panel, you will see the list of all AJAX calls. Look
for the one that starts with “_?wpassetcleanup\_load=1&wpassetcleanup\_time\_r
=_” and in the right side, you can click on “Preview”. Let me know what you see
   there.

 * [@gsrawat](https://wordpress.org/support/users/gsrawat/) this is likely happening
because of an error during the fetching process (e.g. a plugin incompatibility
even though it’s very unlikely as it never happened before with this type of
action, as far as I recall) or your server is timing out because of too much
CPU/memory usage. Please check your error log files and check for any errors
related to Asset CleanUp Pro or any error generated by other plugins at the time
you got the 500 internal error.
 * PS: From my experience, the error you got which is “There has been a critical
error on your website” is often related to fatal errors in the PHP code that
is used either in Asset CleanUp or a plugin that interferes with Asset CleanUp(
   an incompatibility issue).

 * [@gsrawat](https://wordpress.org/support/users/gsrawat/) Can you please update
to the latest version, clear your browser’s caching and check if the CSS/JS list
is loading fine now? Let me know at your earliest convenience!

 * [@gsrawat](https://wordpress.org/support/users/gsrawat/) as this issue has been
solved in the latest version of the plugin and no other reports were made related
to this error (I got a few private messages about it before the latest tag release),
I will mark this topic as “resolved”. If you will still see this 500 internal
error at any point, please let me know!
