 * My site is fairly dynamic and is linked to a stock control system that continually
adjusts availability of products and variations.
 * The problem that I am trying to resolve is that of visibility of out of stock
items. If I ‘hide out of stock items’ – which is my preferred option – then Google
throws up crawl errors if it had previously indexed a page which is no longer
   there. See image.

 * It appears to be the fact that when Google initially indexes there may be x pages
of results, but the next time, because items have gone out of stock, there may
   be x – 1 or x – 2 pages in a category.
 * Is it possible to amend WC to return a ‘softer’ response than a 404, perhaps
returning a page with a message which Google would not flag as an error.
 * If anyone could point me in the right direction I would be most grateful.
