# 403 Gmail auth error – contacted hosting

 * Hi there,
    I get the 403 error when I try to authorise my connection too. My

 * Have contacted hosting support and asked them to disable specific rules within
   Mod_Security as you’ve previously advised. They have come back and said “I just
   give you the full permission to edit the needed file and folder on WordPress,
   Also there is no issues from the server end as I checked the server logs and 
   there is nothing wrong.”
 * Please could you advise? Having been having problems for weeks now.

 * What kind of server log did they look at? There are Apache access/error logs,
   PHP error log, possible Nginx access/error logs, `mod_security` logs etc.
    They
   need to check `modsec_audit.log` (or named similar, but specifically for `mod_security`).

 * Thanks for getting back to me. I copied and pasted your reply to them and they
   have just sent me a zip of access and error logs – just apache ones. One of the
   errors appearing frequently in these is: ‘No matching DirectoryIndex (index.php,
   index.html,index.htm,index.cgi,index.rb,index.py) found, and server-generated
   directory index forbidden by Options directive’ – is this relevant/helpful?
    
   Quite frustrated as they don’t seem willing to help me and have just repeatedly
   changed file permissions on the server to no avail. As I don’t fully understand
   this could you possibly put together for me a question or set of directions they’ll
   need to follow to check the modsec_audit.log? Apologies this has been a painful
   process so far!

 * Do you have plesk to manage your website and domains? I got this fixed by disabling
   the web application firewall and authenticated the mail settings and switched
   the firewall on again.

   worked great for me (disable Plesk WAP). Simple as can be, no code, no muss, 
   no fuss. 30 seconds and it’s done. Thanks!
