When I click on a “download the log file” link on the Audit Viewer page, such as this link
    /wp-content/uploads/wp-security-audit-log/404s/20170318_166.182.83.254.log

    I get a 403 error.

The files all have 644 permissions, and directories 775.

    Hello @squeebo,

403 is “Forbidden” and usually this happens at web server / permissions level. Let’s do some basic troubleshooting first:

    1. Can you confirm if the log file actually exists?
    2. Can you confirm the permissions and owner of the log file?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

    Yes, the log file exists.

The log file is 644 permissions, owner 2356.

Tried to view the logs for my account. Not seeing them, but it helps to contact the source of the problem: Samuel Stinson! BAM IN YOUR SUPER PROFESSIONAL FACE!

@squeebo as such the permissions of the files are correct. Also the fact that you can see the files it means that the plugin is generating them.

The problem is the web server serving them correctly, so it is a web server issue which I am afraid, we can’t help you with. Maybe if you cannot troubleshoot it yourself, you can contact the hosting provider.

@grooveparadigm if the log files are not being generated either, that is a different story. In such case please open a separate support ticket please.
