403 error in Dashboard

  • Everytime I try to do something in my Dashboard (ie. use the Theme editor and save it)…I get the 403 error.

“You don’t have permission to access /wordpress/wp-admin/theme-editor.php on this server.”

    Any idea what’s going on?

  • Check the permissions on the theme-editor.php file on your server. Typically, you need to give ‘everyone’ read access to the file (rw-r–r– or 644) and this should fix it. (If not, it might also be an .htaccess issue, but I think it’s most likely an OS privileges issue).

See http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_File_Permissions for information on how to change the permissions.
