I am hosting on yahoo small business and I am not able to change the .htaccess file as directed. May be this is the problem ? What is the best solution ?

    A new host.

If they won’t let you edit the htaccess file, then this is a problem. It is required for setting up a network.

Thanks Andrea_r. It is nice to have you around & get expert advise. Now as I have just purchased hosting service from Yahoo, I have to be there for at least one year. So can you please tell me is there other ways to host multiple blogs on one domain or may be subdomain ? May be multi install of WP ? Is it possible ? Thanks in advance for your help.

We would like to inform you that currently we do not have a support for
.HT ACCESS on our platform. We request you to design the same on PHP
platform, incase if the application is for rewriting the module or the
URL ,we apologize to inform you that currently we do not support the
    same on our end.

This is the reply from yahoo support people. ” We request you to design the same on PHP platform “. Any suggestions ?

Then make multiple installs of wordpress.
