Support » Fixing WordPress » 4.7.3 “File type not permitted for security reasons”

  • I am trying to upload a .gpx file into the media library. This fails with the message “Sorry, this file type is not permitted for security reasons”

    This happens when using WP 4.7.3

    I also tried installing the Disable Real MIME Check plugin which was a workaround for 4.7.1 and 4.7.2. However, this did not solve the problem.

    Any help to solve this would be much appreciated

    Thanks

    Try using this plugin instead.

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-add-mime-types/

    Once it’s activated visit your Settings -> MIME Type Settings and add this to the list.

    gpx = application/gpx+xml

    Edit: I found and updated the MIME type above.

    Give that a try and see if that works for you.

    Thanks, Jan.

    I installed the plugin and added
    gpx = txt/gpx
    as you first suggested and this worked.

    There was a warning message when editing the mime types:
    “Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/content/56/11028156/html/mayfieldmayfair/wp-content/plugins/wp-add-mime-types/includes/admin.php on line 61”
    but this did not seem to cause a problem.

    Thanks for your help
    Roger
