Hello. I help a friend of mine maintain his WordPress site for his business. Every time the token stops working it is a big ordeal and he is not tech savvy. He also does not live near me, so it is not easy to just jump on his computer with him. Talking him through something like TeamViewer doesn’t appear to be an option either. Is there a way I can get the token with my Facebook credentials for him, or does he always have to do it?

    Thanks,
    SC

    Hi @scotcondry,

    Thanks for contacting us.

Please make sure that the Feed Them Social free plugin is updated. The current version of FTS is 3.0.1 and this version has addressed many connectivity issues.

    Short answer is this: Yes.

Yes, if you have admin privileges for the specific FB Business Page that you wish to display, you can create a FB feed shortcode for your friend and send him the shortcode (for him to apply to his WordPress page) or for you to do that for him if need be as well. This, of course, is all contingent on whomever has admin privileges for the FB Business Page, as you can not retrieve a FB Business access token without that requirement.

If your friend is trying to gain an access token to display a Facebook Business Page, your friend will only need to have admin privileges for that FB Business Page, then he can go to Feed Them > Facebook Options and gain an access token (and then create a FB feed shortcode) on his own. Once this has been completed, the shortcode should last for years before a token refresh would be needed (pending FB changes/glitches of course).
If he does not possess a FB account (and this is why you need to do things this way), he could create one (a FB account) just for this need, or make sure the FTS plugin is up to date and go through the process once again. Which would assure a longer display time (again, pending FB changes/glitches).
Or, just copy/paste the shortcode that you provide him, if you decide to go that option/route.

If it’s the Instagram access token, then IG login credentials for that specific IG account would be required to gain an access token. Again, once a new token is acquired and a new IG shortcode feed is up and running, the feed should last a while before any refresh would be needed (also pending IG changes/glitches etc). Previously, the IG Basic token needed a refresh every two months, in a recent FTS update, our developers were able to rectify this.

    Best regards,
    The SlickRemix Team
