Image pop-up with f8-lite template

I’m trying to add a lightbox type image gallery/slideshow to my website and I’m having issues with the f8-lite theme. Currently, if there is an image on the page, if you click on it, it opens up a slideshow at the top of the page. I’d like to remove this as its not fit for purpose (i.e. photos stretched and pixelated, lack of text or slideshow controls etc). What I’m trying to achieve is a pop-up lightbox which at present is a jQuery engine from Visual Lightbox, which works perfectly on my personal site, though something in the f8 template is causing it to be overridden with this other slideshow.
