Categories Page Not working

I have made a categories page to display all the posts in that category.

Now when a click a category it goes to the page but does not filter the categories based on the link i have clicked.

if however i use a $_GET[] to get the category name from the url the query works fine.

But the above is not a permanent solution as the user can change the permalinks and the categories will stop working.
