• I have 40 or so WP blogs. A recently-installed one, complete with theme, plugins, and first post has had its files disappear, all except .htaccess, error.log, sitemap.xml, and sitemap.xml.gz.

I reinstalled the WP files, and since the database was still intact, the blog came back up, more or less. It was an imperfect situation with some things acting strangely. So I deleted the db and re-created the site from scratch.

Today, the file disappeared again, all except the ones listed above. I have no idea what could cause this. Do you?

I have a downloaded backup done by the wp-backup plugin, but since I have the database, it shouldn’t be necessary. OTOH, just re-uploading the WP files (with custom wp-config.php) didn’t do the whole job of restoration. Any suggestion about that?

There’s nothing in WordPress that would allow it to delete its core files. Either something is wrong on your server’s end, or someone is maliciously deleting them. You should probably check with your hosting provider’s support department.
