  • If you can get into admin, try reducing the number of posts to show to 1.
What plugins are you running ?

I’m running Search Hilite 1.2 and WordPress Hashcash 1.6.

Where do I reduce the number of posts to show? (I’m running v. 1.2)

Found it! When I tried to reduce the number of posts I got this error.

Database error: [User ‘username’ has exceeded the ‘max_questions’ resource (current value: 50000)]
    SELECT wp_options.option_id, option_name, option_type, option_value, option_admin_level FROM wp_options WHERE option_name IN (‘posts_per_page’,’what_to_show’,’posts_per_rss’,’rss_use_excerpt’,’blog_charset’,’gzipcompression’ )

    I would contact your host.
The database may need optimising (though you can do this yourself – http://www.tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/repair/ ) but it won’t hurt to ask them for advice.

GregK: “max_questions” is the number of mysql queries your host has you limited to per hour (See: this for more info).

Once the hour is up I suggest you review the plugins you are using and the number of queries generated per page hit.

With relation to the problem on the website itself, I was just having the same problem. I first tried showing 1 post per page per podz, but that didn’t work, so I switched it to 1 day per post, and that made my page work again.

Thanks. I did the optimization stuff myself, and that hasn’t resolved the problem. I’ve sent a note to the host to see if they know what’s up.

westi — Thanks for the info. I’ll look into that.

Looks like something *really bad* has happened. See http://crowhill.net/blog.

    http://wordpress.org/support/topic/39156 has the same problem

Edit: And now, my earlier solution isn’t working for me any more either.

    Edit: and now it is…grrr…

What solution was that? This error is causing me all sorts of grief.

My webhosting company seems to have resolved the problem on crowhill.net, but I’m not sure what they did. Sorry. Wish I could be more helpful.

I had the same problem described here, and after the hour or so and a call to the host, all was ok. How can a novice make sure that it doesn’t happen again? I read through the link about mySQL from Westi, but it is all Greek to me. I’ve never tried to access that stuff, and wouldn’t even know where to begin.

The site in question is http://www.kennedyvmachine.com . Its a friend of mine’s, and can’t really be down for hours at a time. I don’t even understand the concept. There are 4 contributors to the blog and about 15 registered commenters. How can this lead to 50000 queries and hour? It hadn’t been posted to in a day or more.

Is there a possibility of hackers?

Unrelated? Where can one learn about this “how web stuff works” in simple speak?
