Finding a good plugin to use

I was trying to plunder the plugin database but it uses a search form to locate a plugin which means I am unable to locate plugins without going through the tedious process of looking up one result after another. It would be nice if they were indexed in directory fashion. I would also like to see a field that lets you know if the plugin is provided gratis or is it commercial in nature.
