• Hi there

    The forum search is broken.
    Ever tried searching for “search”??

Next thing: The result-page mixes up links. I get a mixture of “wordpress.org/support/topic.php?id=30540” (giving me a Internal 500 error) and “wordpress.org/support/topic/20904/rss” (same 500 error) and “wordpress.org/support/topic/21429” (works like a charm).

I’m using Firefox on a Win98 machine. It doesn’t seem to matter whether I’m logged on or not.

    Bye
    EB

PS: I’m smart enough to edit the URLs by myself, but there could be people…

    Seems to work.

Yes, the *little issue* with searching on “search” is a bug, and something the folks here are aware of.

A better sort is something a number of people have asked for. Me included.

“PS: I’m smart enough to edit the URLs by myself, but there could be people…”

Oh, if only there were no people… ;)

You get a 500 internal server error because the rss-feed for topics is not /topic/topicID/rss but /rss/topic/topicID … The 500 internal server error is because this kind of links is not defined in .htaccess

Why don’t people just use the links on the pages ??! 😛

Explain to me what I am doing wrong–I search for a term, but the results produce “500” errors. What links can I use on the pages to reach the search results I need?

I tried editing the URLs myself, but only get source html. At least, I THINK that’s what I’m getting.

EDITED TO ADD: I’m not having a problem searching for the term “SEARCH”, by the way. I’m having a problem with ANY search terms I use.

    Thanks!

Conversion rules for bad search results:

    /support/topic.php?id=38720 = /support/topic/38720

    /support/topic/38720/rss = /support/rss/topic/38720

Nope, all that gives me is the raw rss feed. But am I the only one having this problem? If so, then I’m doing something wrong.

Nope, all that gives me is the raw rss feed.

Any link with /rss/ in it is supposed to give you the rss feed.

But am I the only one having this problem?

No, obviously EvilBernd, Kafkaesquí, whistlerke, and I have seen the same thing.

Heh! I guess what I meant was, nobody else in the forum seems to be having difficulties with it. As EvilBernd said “there could be people…” He was correctly describing ME.

All day yesterday I couldn’t edit the URL to give me results I could read without error pages. But I can do it today.

But why do we have to edit links now to read search results in the old forum format? What changed?

I feel like I missed the memo on Updated Searching or something.

bbPress, the software that powers this forum, is under constant development. New features are being implemented, and tweaks to existing features are being applied, on a fairly regular basis behind-the-scenes.

One of the near-term goals is to suppress links to RSS feeds of support topics. It’s a red herring to include those in the results. Work is also underway to make sure that all search results are returned with the correct URI to the post.

Things may break. Please let us know if and when they do. Rest assured that people are working on things.

And we thank you for your patience.

The forums changed to using Yahoo as their search engine, and then changed their URL structure shortly after. Unfortunately, that means that some of the old URLs still exist in Yahoo’s index.

Thanks, guys, for the explanations—now I understand.

    (Heh! It took long enough!)
