 * This plugin hasn’t been updated for a while now and I am looking for something
   that does exactly what this says on the tin.
 * Has anyone had any success with this on 3.8
 * Is there any plan for a newer release of this plugin or has it been left for 
   dead?

 * It works in 3.8.1 for me… but you have to use the fix that is [shown here](http://wordpress.org/support/topic/seems-to-be-broken-in-351-missing-slash-in-url?replies=5).
