500 Internal Server Error

    I am trying to install the latest version of WP i.e. 2.9.2 and after I successfully unzipped the folder, I copied the files using FTP to the (shared)host server space. Then I go in to the web browser and try typing in http://www.mysiteblog.com/wp-admin/install.php; but I am given the error “500 internal server error”.

    Please suggest as to what could be going wrong, or should I consider installing an earlier version of WP? This is a fresh install and not an upgrade.
