When I try to ‘add a new page’ I don’t get the template option up on the right hand side. I have tried changing themes but it has made no difference.
The template option is only available if your current theme contains custom page templates.

OK thanks I think I understand what you are meaning (I have just started using wordpress.) I will create a page template and see if that works

Hi I have uploaded two different custom page templates and I still do not get the page template option when I create a new page. There are no options under the publish button.
Look under the Attributes tab.

Hi Michael I have tried that. thanks
esmi no its not under the Attributes tab.
Then I can only assume that it’s not been created correctly or has been uploaded to the wrong theme folder. It’s a long shot but have you tried deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

I suspected the plugins but I tried deactivating them and then changing themes etc and there is still no change. The templates I used were the ones given as examples: http://codex.wordpress.org/Pages#Examples and were uploaded to wp-content/themes/default
So you are using the WordPress Default theme?
Note that the WordPress Default theme comes with links.php that is a valid page template.

Yes I have switched from revolution magazine to the default and I still cant get it to work. I think wordpress may have too many bugs for my liking.
There are hundreds of thousands of users who haven’t come across this particular “bug”, so I suspect it may have something to do with your installation.
It’s as simple as switch between theme’s in appearance. After that the functions works if you already made a custom page template.
