Before you install WP, you must create a mysql database first. You can do this by loging into your mysql server.
1. /path/to/your/mysql_installation/mysql -u root -p
2. create database wordpress;
3. use wordpress;
4. grant all on wordpress to ‘username’@localhost identified by ‘password’;
5. flush privileges;
6. go to http://localhost/WP-dir/wp-admin/install.php
In the vdeck tutorial — I don’t have a host manager icon.
I’m with Bluehost by the way if that makes any difference. It was one of the recommended ones for WP.
I don’t have the databases icon, either for the plesk tutorial.
When you login to your BlueHost cpanel, click on My SQL Databases, then go from there.
I have bluehost myself and am actually having some issues with WP at the moment. Let me know how you go once you install it and if you can see the WP dashboard.
Dude! It’s working!
I didn’t know that you were supposed to just open your website up!
I feel so dumb now. I was trying to open it through my ftp, and it kept openining in dreamweaver, hence all the errors and aggravation.
Thank you for your help & tutorials, they were extremely helpful.
sisters, when you login to WP, can you see the dashboard? Myself and another BlueHost user have had a problem displaying the main page of the WP login…
