Support » Plugin: WP-Members: Membership Framework » 3.5.2 update makes plugin unable to log in

Updating to WP 3.5.2 breaks the ability to log into hidden content with the plugin. Broke plugin on two different WP sites. No errors showing up in error logs, just says “You entered an invalid username or password.” Can still log into the Dashboard. I have tried to change passwords from dashboard and manually in database. Users are activated. Replaced plugin v2.8.2 with v2.8.3.

I’m not sure why you would experience that if all you did was update to WP 3.5.2. There is nothing in the update that I am aware of that would break the plugin, and I have tested the plugin with 3.5.2.

If you are able to login via wp-login.php (dashboard), you should also be able to login via the plugin’s login forms.

When you changed the password manually in the db, how did you change it? Passwords are phpass encrypted. Did you update these with an appropriately encrypted value?

Note that 2.8.3 is still considered a beta release.

I realize that 2.8.3 is in beta, installing it was an attempt to fix the issue we are having with WP 3.5.2 and the plugin 2.8.2. Passwords have been changed manually with the correct encryption, and via the dashboard with no success. We can still log into the dashboard with any user, just cannot log in to the hidden content with the plugin. We have also attempted to fix the issue by replacing all of the files in wp-admin and wp-includes with fresh copies. Any other suggestions?

There aren’t any known issues with 3.5.2 and the plugin as I have been testing. It is odd that you get a valid login via the wp-login.php and not the frontend, since the plugin’s frontend login is using WP’s signon function. I’d have to take a closer look at it to see what’s up. Contact me via the support site at with a link to the site (and preferably some login credentials) and reference this thread and I’ll take a look at it.

    Chad you are awesome.

In case anyone else runs into this, if you are running “SI Captcha” to put a captcha on the WordPress Dashboard log in or any other similar plugin I assume, disabling it fixes the issue with logging into this plugin.

Thanks for posting. To add some additional color to this for others, WP-Members front end login relies on the WP login functions. So if you have a plugin that changes a function (plugs a pluggable function) rather than altering an action/filter with a hook, that can alter compatibility between WP-Members and WP.

As an example, I think that SI CAPTCHA rewrites one of the login functions (which is pluggable) so that causes a login error for WP-Members as it is just passing the username/password and not the captcha.

I am having the same problem. Everyone is activated. It worked a few weeks ago. I had the default captcha setup. I deactivated it. Nothing. I updated the plugin itself. Nothing. I updated to wordpress 3.5.2. Nothing.

Please help. I will send any login info you need.
