• Played a bit with wordpress about 5 years ago but nothing serious.I’m retired now and looking to set up a website about our RV travels.

I see there are a lot of free themes available for download on the wordpress site. I’m looking to set up a CMS site that has static content (front page etc) along with a blog section for rants and raves and a gallery section to share photos with family and friends. How do I determine which theme would be suitable for what I’m looking to do, or can someone suggest a decent free (cause I’m on a fixed income) 2-column CMS ready theme to get me going.

I still have a lot of reading to do regarding plugins, widget ready themes, etc etc. Lot has changed since I looked at wordpress years ago. I also need to brush up on the little html and css that I know.

    Any help would be appreciated.

  • As far as finding a theme that you want to you, just search the Themes section of this site under Extend. Pick whichever one you like and get to work!

When you install WordPress and your theme, you can go to the WP-Admin part of the site and click on Settings > Reading. There you can pick a static page to be your homepage, and then make a different page your blog page.

You can also get creative if you know the code and change around a front page template to suit your needs (or find someone who knows how to do it for you).

    Good luck!
