[resolved] 3.5 RC3: Thumbnail pictures looking skewed on Internet Explorer 8 (6 posts)

    Not sure if this is related to the twenty twelve theme or the core of 3.5. Thought I will post this here - just in case if it can be fixed in time for the release version. Also it seems it might be connected to this issue that is addressed in Trac here

    Thumbnail pictures are looking skewed on Internet Explorer 8 (see screen dump.

    They look fine on IE9+ and other Browsers.

    For example the thumbnail on the right hand picture 387 x 86. It is generated by the tag:

    <img width="1024" height="227" src="http://paddler.co.nz/wp-content/Imagefiles/2012/12/Kawhia-Harbour-010-1024x227.jpg" class="attachment-thumbnail" alt="Radio check">

    It seems to happen because IE gets confused about which height to calculate (it takes the original height from the 1024x227 dimensions instead of the scaled down height that comes with the actual visual width of 387px).

    If you want, you can check the live site to see what I mean.

    This seems to be a Twenty Twelve + IE8 thing. It is responsively resizing images, and that may have some trouble in IE8 when it also has the <img> tag to listen to.

    Can you reproduce this in Twenty Ten? Twenty Eleven?

    The other thing I'm seeing is that your gallery is using full-size images. Is that a plugin or gallery shortcode attribute doing that?

    Thanks for the report, we'll test out a CSS fix for this case. Looks like we just need to account for gallery thumbnails better in older IE versions.

    I'm curious about the plugin and huge images, too. :)

    Added to core Trac in http://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/22782

    This is fixed in core (latest trunk) now.

    @ Lance: thanks re the Update re CSS fix in core
    @ Andrew: plugin=easy fancybox (with wp3.5 media gallery)
    Size of images are big as I didn't know what I was doing when I uploaded the raw images (not related to plugin). Trying to figure a way to fix it without redoing each image manually.
