• in settings>reading I have set a static page as the home page and posts to another page. This has worked fine for months but today I pulled up my site and see that it is defaulting to show posts and not the static page. I upgraded to latest version of WordPress to see if that would fix and it did not. It seems to be ignoring the static page setting completely. Any ideas?

  • Did you change/upgrade your theme too? Some themes are very custom for the homepage and this may be the reason for ignoring the static page setting. Changing the theme might help you see if this is the issue or not.

    Hope this helps some!

thanks italians4! I tried changing themes, but it does not seem to be the problem. It still ignores the static page setting.

The permalink on the static page I want is set to the URL, so it should be going to this page when the url is pulled up, but it is not.

I have both a home.php and an index.php in the theme directory. I tried removing home then tried removing index and leaving home, it still won’t go to the static page no matter what I do!

    Any other ideas out there??

For that static page, any chance you’ve assigned a Page Template that might be causing the problem? Then there’s the possibility a plugin is causing the problem.

As for home.php, according to Administration > Settings > Reading

the theme’s index.php (or home.php if it exists) will control the display of the posts

haven’t assigned a page template, nor any new plugins. The static page has been working fine for over a year, then all of a sudden it doesn’t anymore. When I upgraded to latest version of WordPress a couple days ago, I removed plugins as well, and still doesn’t work.

I run another wordpress site that did not use the static page feature. I just tried assigning a static front page to that site as an experiement and it also ignores the setting. I am completely stumped on this one.

Change to the WordPress Default theme to see if it works.

I just tried activating the default theme. Static page doesn’t work with that either.
