• It is PERFECTLY OK to SELL CLOSED SOURCE software, but it is NOT FAIR to all the PLUGIN WRITERS who have offered FULLY GPL compliant plugins for featured content. Has the policy on wordpress.org changed and it now decided to promote closed source plugins? Of course i’m talking about the SWF FLASH file for which no source FLA is provided and even the SWF is not licensed under GPL.

Again the issue is whether WordPress.org has changed its policy and is ok with non-gpl plugins. Otherwise the plugin should be removed in respect to all the other plugin authors and their hard work in providing FULLY GPL’d plugins. This author’s featurific plugin puts an unremovable overlay graphic in the swf that goes to his site where he advertises a PRO version for sale. So someone please clarify the position because i’m sure other plugin authors would like to advertise/publish their closed source plugins on here also.

    Hi Rich,

Thanks for the reply, its great to hear you are willing to consider making some changes. May I ask if you are considering making the plugin GPL or if you meant you were going to remove it?

As an example of a true GPL flash plugin I would point you to wp-cumulus http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-cumulus/ as an example.

I realize you might be concerned about revenue loss but I think you should consider the fact that some of us will not use your plugin just on principle. I think if you make your plugin GPL, your PRO version will only gain ground in respect to your GPL efforts. We just don’t like the idea of having a ‘non-GPL’ plugin on here when the rest are GPL, in respect to all the other authors and their work.

Looking forward to a GPL’d Featurific!
