I recently downloaded WordPress 2.9 release, and installed it on several WordPress sites I manage.
But on 1 of these, the following problem still exists.
After installation (no errors shown), I tried to log on as admin (or admin equivalent user), but keep getting the message : “Insufficiant authorization to access this page”.
(in dutch: “Je hebt onvoldoende toegangsrechten voor deze pagina”)

I already removed all tables through MyPHP admin, and reinstalled WordPress. So far, no progress.
I also did a partial restore from WordPress 2.8.6 release, and imported this one after installation.
Before doing this, I exported current users (2: myself and an admin, both admin-authorization), and re-imported them (thus: overwriting former registered users/authorization).

Is this a known problem, and (better….) is there a workaround?
The tables WP_users and usermeta can’t derive anything about ‘insufficient’ authorization, as both users are administrator-equivalent.

ps: I checked all file attributes, and made sure they’re set on 755.

update: i disabled ALL plugins, by renaming through Filezilla (FTP) the plugin directory from plugins to rename-plugins.

after that, i could access the CMS menu.

though…. now still all articles are visible throughout this menu, but not from the website :o(

follow the site which has these symptoms here

I have the same problem. After upgrading to WordPress 2.9 I get the “You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.” error when I try to access my admin panel. I have tried everything short of a clean install of the whole thing.

The blog experiencing with these symptoms is this

As you can see everything works as it should from the readers point of view, except that all the plugins are disabled. (Tried to fix this by temporarily changing my plugins directory).

Hope that someone out there can help me.

Your solution works for me, NielsT. First rename the plugin directory, login to the back end of the website, change the name of the plugin directory back to what it was original.
Then one by one re-activate the plugins, so you can see what plugins cause the problem. In my case ‘Alkivia open community’ was one of them.

WordPress Database Backup also gave a problem… I’ll try updating them and see what happens.

It doesn’t do the trick for me… 🙁 I’m seeking desperatly for a solution..

The cause of this problem were the plugins: WP Backup and qTranslate.

So I killed the bi-langual support on my blog, and will backup through MyPHP website menu.
