Gallery from Category with Links to Posts

    Hi,

    I apologize if this has been asked before, I searched for quite some time but can’t seem to find it. I am trying to generate a gallery using all the images from a category to use that as a “page” and then have each image in that page link back to the original post where it came from.

    So for example:

    1. I have a category called “art journal” where each post has a page from my journal (image) and then it has some text where i talk about the page etc. Some posts might even have two images.

    2. I want to yank all the images from the category “art journal”, create a page called “Art Journal Pages” where it just shows a gallery of my images from all the posts I made to “art journal” category. (And automatically updates when I post new posts to that category).

    3. And each of the images in this gallery are clickable back to the original post I made about that specific page.

    I hope this makes sense. I’ve tried a bunch of plugins but can’t seem to find this functionality. Is it out there?

    I don’t know what plugins you have tried. Will AutoNav do what you need?

    Categories don’t have images. Only Posts and Pages do. So you’d need to create a loop that went through all posts in your art journal category and checked each post for the first image attachment. Each attachment thumbnail would then need to be made into an image link to the originating post. Finally you’d need to output all of the image links onto the page.

    esmi, i understand. i meant all the posts in a certain category. i also understand what needs to happen, i am just asking if there’s a plugin that has this functionality that I am not aware of. i can see there are hundreds of plugins and just wanted to ask if anyone knows of one that does this.

    vtxyzzy, i might be stupid but it looks like autonav works on pages and child pages but not posts. my entries are all posts.

    Sorry, my mistake. I don’t know of other plugins to suggest.

    If you don’t want a plugin, maybe this technique could be of some use.

    thank you off to try both of your suggestions. i can’t believe i’m the first person who’s wanted to do this. i thought it would be easy to find 🙂

    ugh. the first one is for the home page so it assumes a template with posts. i want to make pages for a few of my categories. so i don’t think i can use it unless i am missing something.
