• Resolved tiresidedown

    (@tiresidedown)

    Hello

I have the blog at dream-program.com and I want to move it to dreamprogram.com.

    I found the instructions at:
    http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_The_Site_URL

But I’m not sure I can do it. The settings were already broken once when it was tried to do the ‘switch’ in settings alone. This was fixed by the method on the same URL above. So.. this method is for resolving problems like this and for changing URL ‘if you have moved’ to a domain/subdomain with a different name.

I’ve already used it to fix the problem of a misguided move attempt, does this change the way I might move the blog now?

I was hoping I could literally just copy the entire site from one folder to another and update URLs – evidently not…

    Suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Dan

  • Quickest way is to just have a redirect from your old domain. You can do this several ways but the admin panel of your domain server will probably have an easy redirect function. This is what I often do.

The permanent solution is to backup your posts and pages (the built-in export function of WP is good enough for this)then import to new wordpress in the new domain. And also use several possible backup plugins out there to backup other stuff and settings in the database. You may need your FTP and some mysql.

As long as you have backed up, the whole process is pretty quick.
